Austin is a one year old, male, Blue Weimaraner with a docked tail, and beautiful green eyes. Austin was left at the shelter by his owner who no longer wanted him. This sweet, happy boy was a yard dog and was not allowed into the house, so it will take time and patience to get him accustomed to being an inside dog. He’ll need to learn the basics. In the vet’s office, Austin wanted to play with all the dogs, greeted them all with a wagging tail, and had no interest in the cats – though we cannot be certain if he will be cat friendly. Austin did okay on the leash but needs work….nothing like a good round of obedience classes for him and his new family. Austin is still very much a puppy and will need lots of exercise and a home willing to work through his energy. He would do best in a home with older children. Because Austin was never given monthly heartworm medication by his owner, he is Heartworm positive, and will need to begin treatment in the next week. Austin will be neutered and is up-to-date on his vaccinations and microchipped.

The AWCR uses a common process in its rescue program. Read about our Adoption Process procedures.

We are an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization. Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. If you wish to make a donation, please use our online giving page.

Of course, financial assistance is typically our greatest need because of the costs encountered with rescuing our beautiful gray & blue friends ($300 per dog on average). But, there are several other ways for you to contribute to the ongoing efforts of the Atlanta Weimaraner Club Rescue.

Austin is such a sweetheart. Has the group had success with adoptions for folks living in condos/apartments? I see 3 other Weims where we are living.

We take each situation and evaluate separately. In an apartment/condo environment, we will consider the age of the weim, activity levels/requiresments of both the weim and the potential adoptors, proximity to other exercise opportunities (trails, dog parks, etc.), temperament of the dog (barking, whining, sep anxiety issues)…. We try to work with each applicant to make the best decision for both the weim and the adoptors. Austin is now in a “adoption pending” status. However, we are in the process of posting additional weims that we are bringing into our program this week. If you are interested in learning more about our weims, please complete an online application and we will contact you for an interview and homecheck.. Thanks!

Austin has been fine in the apartment, but does best when he has been playing outside (dog park, running etc…) And he is adopted now! YAY.

Kate, we are so excited that Austin found y’all! Congratulations to all of you!
