Dalton is a handsome, 2 year old, big, happy, healthy boy who loves to play! He loves tennis balls! Dalton’s mom had to move to an apartment that did not allow big dogs, so she had to surrender him. Dalton is a typical, high energy Weim, but he always takes time to give lots of love…he’s a cuddle bunny. He is housebroken, rides nicely in the car, and gets along great with other dogs. He is very, very smart and knows basic commands. Dalton would do best in a home with an active family and no cats. He would make a great running companion too! Dalton is boarding at Camp Bow Wow, Duluth. If you would like to foster Dalton or meet Dalton, please contact us at rescue@AtlantaLovesWeims.org

Hi, my name is Comet. I am approx. 1-2 yrs old, neutered (this coming week) and I have a natural tail…(ok, so somebody told me that!) Up until a few days ago, I lived outside under an abandoned house and every few days, a nice man came and put some food out for me and my sister, Cayla, so we wouldn’t starve. We got water from a nearby lake. I am not really sure how we got to the house, but I am glad we did because we were so afraid when the rain came. A wonderful lady came and put us in her truck. She told us we would never have to worry about being afraid or hungry again. I went to the vet for the first time, and got all of my shots (that was not fun!), but then the doctor told the nice lady that I had heartworms. It made her very sad. She said that I was such an adorable, 59 lb. little guy, and that when I gained some weight and got healthy, the rescue people would make the worms go away. The nice lady said I was a wiggle worm, and that when I learned how to be an inside dog, and how to walk on a leash (whatever that is), I would make someone an amazing companion. The nice lady also said that I should live with a family that has experience with dogs like me…Weimers. So, now I’m waiting to find out what this ‘living with a family’ is all about. I hope you hurry cause it sounds like fun!

Hi, my name is Cayla. I am approx. 1-2 yrs old, spayed girl (this coming week) and I have a natural tail…(I heard that makes me just that much cuter!) Up until a few days ago, I lived outside under an abandoned house and every few days, a nice man came and put some food out for me and my brother, Comet, so we wouldn’t starve. We got water from a nearby lake. I am not really sure how we got to the house, but I am glad we did because we were so afraid when the rain came…we just curled up together like a pretzel. A wonderful lady came and put us in her truck. She told us we would never have to worry about being afraid or hungry again. I went to the vet for the first time and got all of my shots (that was not fun!), and some medicine for those nasty flea bugs (gosh, they were itchy!) The man that gave me the shots said I didn’t have any nasty heartworms (the lady clapped!) The lady said that I was such a precious, sweet, little 49 lb. girl, and that when I gained some weight and got healthy, I would be gorgeous. The nice lady said I was a wiggle worm, like my brother, and that when I learned how to be an inside dog, and how to walk on a leash (whatever that is), I would make someone an amazing companion. The nice lady also said that I should live with a family that has experience with dogs like me…Weimers. So, now I’m waiting to find out what this ‘living with a family’ is all about. I hope you hurry cause it sounds like fun!

Ellie is a beautiful, healthy, 54 lb, 7 year old female that is looking for a new forever home. Ellie is good with other dogs, likes to ride in the car, walks nicely on leash, and loves to play Frisbee. She has always been a house dog, is very friendly, and happy-go-lucky. Ellie would make an excellent running companion, and she especially likes to go to the dog park. Ellie needs to be in a home that can give her lots of exercise and attention. She would do best in a home with no small children (under 10 yrs.)

Betty is a beautiful, spayed 6.5 year old, 75 lb. female that came to rescue because her owner could no longer care for her or her husband Max. Betty is a beautiful girl, most deserving of a wonderful forever home! As with many rescues, Betty has a ‘story’, and perhaps a not-so-happy one to tell. When she came to AWCR in December of last year, she was a scared, shut-down and pitiful sight to see. Betty came scared of EVERYTHING. Literally, everything! Upon meeting her first wonderful foster family for Christmas in 2010, Betty escaped their house due to her fear of people and tendency to bolt away. She spent the next several days, with countless volunteers searching for her, in the coldest days of winter and the snow storm of early 2011. Betty was located by a good Samaritan on January 13th and returned to the AWCR where she met her new foster family and Animal Behaviorist who would help to ease Betty’s fears and acclimate her to the activities of daily life.
Betty adopted a corner in the mud room of her new foster families’ house and remained there, scared of her own shadow and nearly everything else she encountered, for several months, even while undergoing extensive training to ease her fears and anxiety. However, we could not give up on Betty! She is the sweetest soul one could hope to meet. Despite her past and her extreme anxiety, she wanted to live. You could tell by the spark that came back to her eyes after several months of being allowed to live in freedom; free from the crate that confined her for the first 6 years of her life. After extensive therapy, we are proud to say that Betty has made great strides in her recovery. She will now eat and drink in front of us (this was HUGE!) and take treats and toys from people. When she hears the treats, she now comes running! She has even been caught, on occasion, chasing a ball with the other pups in the back yard! She also ENJOYS playing with the other pups as well.
Betty is a very calm dog and will most likely never be the ‘outgoing’ type. Betty would be perfectly fine to live on your couch for the remainder of her life, with lots of love and occasional petting from you! Betty does not possess an aggressive bone in her body. She, although still fearful, allows our children near her, our cats and any other dog she meets. She LOVES dogs and would thus most likely do better in a home with a friendly pup to help her further overcome her fears and romp in the back yard with. She is potty trained and requires a house with a fenced yard.
Her rehabilitation is an ongoing process as she is by no means ‘cured’ of her fears. Even after daily training thus far, the process to ‘undo’ the fear that built inside her for the first 6 years of her life may last for several years, even perhaps, for the rest of her life. She needs a patient, understanding owner, aware of her past and committed to her future, with the knowledge that a relationship with Betty will take time to build. You must be willing to put time and effort into furthering her rehabilitation until the remnants of her fearful past are no longer present. I can assure you, she is worth it! She is 110% deserving!
