Wilbur is a handsome, 5 year old, neutered, 75lb male Weimaraner that needs a new home because our family is growing and we are being transferred out of state. As with most Weimaraners, Wilbur is high energy and loves to run, walk and play fetch. He also loves to relax at home and gets along great with other dogs (big and small) or cats in the home. He is great with children, but might love a home that is a bit quieter and calmer, or with older children. Wilbur is up-to-date on his shots, on monthly heartworm meds and is housebroken. Wilbur does not do well in a crate, but he is fine left free roaming in the house alone. Wilbur is very eager to please and would make an excellent running companion. We want a quieter home for Wilbur that can give him the love and attention he deserves.

Sam is a 1 ½ yr old grey Weim, you will fall in love with this guy. It breaks my heart to find him a new home, but due to our new financial situation we can no longer care for him and his brother. We also have a 6 month old baby and even though Sam will let the baby pull on his ears and kick him he will never snap at him but he plays rough and doesn’t pay attention when the baby is on the floor. Sam is definitely an indoor dog and I don’t think he would adapt well to being an outside dog. Sam hates the rain and will not even lay on his doggy bed unless his special fuzzy blanket is down. He is very sweet and very playful. Sam’s two favorite words are treat and ball. He loves tennis balls and loves to play fetch. He is not crate trained and is left in the house when we are gone. He is house broken and is easily trainable; he will scratch at back door when he needs to go out and if you can’t hear him he will pace around and look at you. He knows how to sit, stay, shake, he can guess which hand the treat is in, and when it’s feeding time he sits in front of his food and waits until told to “go ahead”. He loves hiking, going on runs, or even walk, the dog park, car rides, playing with his brother. He would love to stay with his brother Chief, they have been together since Sam was 2 months old.

Chief is a strikingly beautiful 2 ½ year old blue Weim. He is tall, lean, muscular and very strong. He is an indoor dog but needs a fenced in yard to play. He loves to run and play with his little weim brother. He loves running in open spaces, hiking, camping, and going for walks. He always wants love and hugs, he thinks he is a lap dog and will lie on top of you. He’s good with people and with children, just not a good idea with babies since he is so hyper when he plays he doesn’t pay attention to his surroundings. Chief had a bad past and an unfortunate encounter with a pit bull and now has aggression towards other dogs. If properly introduced Chief will get along with the other dog, he just has never been able to be around another female dog. Chief was a prior outside dog and loves the indoor life now and would like to stay that way. He is not crate trained; he stays in the house when we are not home and does fine. He is completely house broken; he will not tell you if he has to go out so we just have to make sure we remember so he doesn’t hold it too long. He knows sit, stay, shake, he waits in front of his food until told to “go ahead”, he knows “go lay down”, “treat?” and “outside?”. Chief would love to find a home with his little brother, Sam.

Hello! My name is Ethan and I am a handsome, 3-4 yr old, neutered, male Weimaraner with a big heart! I was picked up as a stray and taken to a shelter, but nobody came to get me. I don’t know why…I guess my family didn’t love me. Amy, a rescue agent with Atlanta Weimaraner Club Rescue, saved my life. She took me to the vet so I could get my shots and get neutered, but then the vet said I had heartworms. I heard them talking and they said I would have to have treatment. I am not looking forward to that because they also said I would have to stay very quiet for 30 days. I just want to get well and have a new family that will love me. I really would be so thankful if someone would foster me while I go through treatment so I don’t have to stay in a kennel. I promise I’ll be a good boy. Amy told me she is going to make sure I have a new furever home soon. I hope she’s right because I am sad! (More on Ethan as we get to know him…his treatment will begin 1/30/12.)

Ace is a 3 year old neutered male Weim that needs a new home because we will be moving to a house with a small yard and it is hard for me to walk him with my back trouble. He is up-to-date on shots, on heartworm prevention and is housebroken and crate trained. He loves children but would do better with a family with older kids because he is so big. He is not overly hyper but is very energetic and playful and loves to play toys. He has gotten along fine with other dogs at the place he was boarded and when my daughters bring their dogs over to play but he will bark protectively at other dogs when he is on a leash. We have never had him around cats but he acts like he would chase them when on a leash. He will ride fine in a car, but he it seems to make him nervous. He has a very funny and silly personality. He is very affectionate and eager to please. Ever since he has been a puppy, he seems very cautious of new situations. We want a home for him where he has a fenced back yard and someone who will give him the exercise and attention he deserves.

Hi! Our names are Tyla and Duke, and we are 8 years young. My mom said to tell you that we are AKC Registered, but not from the same litter. We used to live in a house with two cats, but my mom could no longer take care of us, so she gave us to a nice lady at AWCR who promised she would find us a new home. We are such good dogs; we like other dogs, long rides in the car, and playing ball. We are housebroken, think the crate is okay cause we sleep there, and love to go for long walks or jogs. We would really love to find a family that will let us stay together because we’ve been together since we were puppies. We promise to be good! Oh, and we want to also mention that we were raised with two children from birth and we are very gentle with kids even when they are rough, pull our tails and skin or lay all over us… You’ve got to admit that makes us very special…and good with cats…what more could you ask for? I hope you will consider giving us a new home with your family and let us show you how wonderful we are! (We will also consider separating Tyla and Duke if there is another dog in the home.)
Here is an Update:
Duke and Tyla are two very sweet dogs with very different pesonallities. Duke loves to be outside ramble and hunt. He has great recall and very loving. Tyla is a couch potato and likes to play with Duke when outside. Both do great inside and have learned the dog door. They rest quietly on couch down stairs when left alone. They are well behaved and should make a great addition to a loving home. They will be easy for any home to handle.

Sebastian is a sweet, calm, good natured boy who did not get the exercise he needed, so he will start a diet and a healthy new life-style that includes daily exercise immediately. Sebastian knows basic commands, likes to play ball for short periods, and he is housebroken. As we get to know him more, we will update his bio.

Hank is an exceptionally handsome approx. 1-2 year old gray, Texas Blue Lacy that was rescued from a rural Georgia kill shelter. He is very sweet and gets along with other dogs. He is up-to-date on vaccines and neutered. Hank will need a family that is extremely active and willing to take him to obedience classes. Texas Blue Lacy’s are excellent with children and make wonderful family dogs as long as they are exercised appropriately. We will update as we get to know him.
Origins and History
Lacys were developed in the Texas Hill Country by the four Lacy brothers (Frank, George, Ewin, and Harry), who emigrated from Kentucky to Burnet County, Texas, in 1858. Traditional wisdom, as well as Lacy family history, holds that Lacys are the result of Greyhound/scent hound/coyote cross.

Multiple sources also suggested that the presence of Lacys in the Hill Country strongly influenced Fred Gipson, who was raised in adjacent Mason County and was best known for his novel Old Yeller. The Blue Lacy Game Dog filled the needs of colonial Americans for well over a century on ranches in the Southwestern US.

The decline of the family-owned ranching industry, as well as the introduction of technology such as all-terrain vehicles, brought the Lacy breed near extinction; however, its rediscovery as a masterful hunting companion has dramatically increased the demand for Lacys. They are now the most common breed used by United States Trappers.

Colors and Markings
The origin of the unusual slate blue coat and nose is a genetic rarity. All Lacy’s have minimal to full white markings on their brisket and most of the time on paw or paws. The light gun-metal gray to almost black Lacy’s are classified in color as blue. The red, yellow to cream Lacy’s are classified in color as red.

The tri-colored Lacy’s are blue with red markings over their eyes, on muzzle, under tail, and down the legs. They are classified in color as tri. Both the red and tri-colored Lacy’s hold the name Blue Lacy due to the blue-color gene they possess. All Blue Lacy’s eyes are very bright and distinctive orange to yellow in color. Which adds a unique touch to their appearance.

Handling and Care
Lacy’s are easy to handle, spectacular workers and pets that are great with children. They are energetic and dedicated dogs, capable of handling the meanest longhorn cattle or most jittery of hens, taking the job instinctively, requiring no training. They are known to replace the work of a cowboy by five times. This breed is also used for hog hunting, finding wounded deer, and treeing game. Suitable for a watch dog.

Temperment
Can be sensitive to yelling. Most respond better to stern or soft commands.

Odin is a sweet, gentle, 10 yr old neutered male that is looking for a furever home where he can spend his golden years. He was surrendered by his owner because she could no longer care for him. Odin is great with children of all ages as well as other dogs. His foster mom said that the children literally crawl all over him. He is a very laid back guy who just enjoys the company of his people and a soft bed to lay on. Wherever you are, Odin will be at your side. He would make an amazing companion for a senior. He does like to be outside, just not by himself. Odin is learning some new rules, like counter surfing is not allowed, and his foster mom is also working on not pulling on the leash while walking. Odin is a very quick learner and very eager to please. Won’t you consider giving Odin a place to call home? He’s just the best dog EVER!
